I've tried the pegasus compression filters, and am getting a 14 So I try adding some compression, first Huffyuv, then pegasus However, it's way out of sync with a ton of dropped frames. I add a deinterlacing filter and that wonderful VHS filter, and set it to output the results to an AVI file. So I install the virtualdub mpeg2 version that does. So I download virtualdub, find out that it doesn't support mpeg2. The resulting file looks ok, but I'd like to run it through virtualdub to clean it up a bit. As far was I can tell it only captures to mpeg2 and not avi. 'm capturing from VHS into a full resolution D1 mpeg2 file using a Hauppage PVR-150. But Quicktime 7 DOES play MPG files with sound fine.This is a crosspost from the shspvr forums, so please excuse me if you read both. So, to recap, my Quicktime 7 won't play sound on MOV files, although the sound level indicators are jumping. I'm trying to avoid installing a hundred codecs and/or versions of quicktime. Other people who had similar problems said the MOV files DID have sound with earlier versions of quicktime. Some people on web said this issue (no sound for mov files in QT7) might be caused be various codecs used when recording, or when converting file.

LIkewise, some EE Posts on related subjects said try using "GSPOT" to identify needed codecs for MOV Files - but GSPOT said MOV is an unsupported file type! I tried opening the MOV files with virtualdub mpeg2 (which is the only version of virtualdub I can find nowadays). I tried playing the MOV files in PowerDVD, Windows Media Player, and Winamp, but no go. I also tried playing an AVI file with Quicktime but it says I need to download more stuff, so forget that.

I tried playing some other files, MPG files, with Quicktime 7, and they play fine - WITH SOUND.

I tried a different MOV file I had on my HD from a different source - which does have sound on the sender's PC. HOWEVER, I can see the sound levels jumping in the video window, but hear nothing. I installed Quicktime 7, it played the two MOV files, but VIDEO ONLY.
